02 – Product Definition (What Is It?)
Acoustic Insulated Glass is a sealed insulating glass unit (IGU) engineered for airborne sound control. It consists of two or more glass lites separated by an air or argon-filled cavity, often with asymmetric glass thicknesses to break resonance. Unlike acoustic laminated glass—which damps vibration via a PVB interlayer—this product controls noise primarily through mass + cavity depth + decoupled panes. It is the standard choice when procurement specs call for “acoustic double glazing” or “soundproof IGU” rather than a monolithic laminate.

Structural variables:
- Glass lites: 2 (double) or 3 (triple) panes

- Asymmetry: Different pane thicknesses (e.g. 6+8) to defeat coincidence frequency

- Rw (EN ISO 717-1): up to 47 dB
- OITC: reported for exterior-grade units
- Coincidence control: Asymmetric lites + cavity depth shift coincidence dip away from speech band (500–4000 Hz)
- Test basis: ASTM E90 / E413, ISO 10140 series
- Datasheet includes 1/3-octave transmission loss curve on request
06 – Safety & Thermal - Glazing safety: Tempered (EN 12150) or Heat-Strengthened; laminated option for fall-out safety
- Sealed unit durability: Desiccant spacer, dual-seal (butyl + polysulfide/silicone), fog-free guarantee
- Thermal: U-value 1.2–2.8 W/m²K (argon, depending on coating)
