Colour coated shower glass carries an opaque coating applied at the factory to the back face of the panel — the side against the wall, never the side facing the water. Any RAL colour, in gloss, satin or matt, on a tempered safety glass.
Colour coated glass is tempered safety glass with an opaque colour coating applied to one face at the factory. The coated face is installed against the wall — the second surface — so what faces into the shower is smooth glass, and the colour is seen through the glass rather than exposed to it.
That construction is the whole point. The coating never contacts water, soap or cleaning agents, and it is protected by the glass in front of it. What the shower sees is a glass surface, which is as easy to clean as any other glass panel; what the room sees is a solid, even colour field with the depth that only glass gives.
Because the coating is opaque, this is the one product in the range with no light transmission at all — which makes it the strongest privacy option available and, at the same time, the most restrictive. Both halves of that trade-off are covered below.
Applied colour has a poor reputation in bathrooms, and deservedly so — but the reputation belongs to a different product. The distinction is worth being precise about.

The films that lift, bubble and cloud in shower enclosures are applied to the face that water runs down, with edges exposed to every cleaning cycle. A factory coating sits behind the glass, sealed at the edges, and is specified as part of the panel rather than added to it afterwards. Every other route to colour in this range is constrained by its process. Tinted glass is limited to the colours a float line produces — grey, bronze, green, blue and a handful more. Printed glass can reproduce a wide gamut but is built from inks that shift in the furnace. Coating is the only option that starts from an open palette.
Specify a RAL code and it can be produced. This is the reason a designer chooses coating over tinting when a scheme is built around a specific colour.
Charcoals, blacks, deep greens and navies hold evenly across a large panel — difficult to achieve with any other decorative glass.
Off-whites, warm greys and pastels, with none of the green cast that affects tinted and untreated float glass.

The palette is far wider than tinted glass, but it is not infinite, and a brand colour is still approved on a physical sample rather than a code. We match as closely as the coating system allows; we do not guarantee an exact Pantone or brand-colour match.
Gloss level changes the room more than most buyers expect, and it is the specification most often left to the last minute.

High reflectivity, the deepest apparent colour, and the most dramatic. It also shows every water spot and fingerprint on the glass face, and it amplifies the room's lighting — including downlights you may not want reflected.
The middle ground and the safest default. Colour reads strongly, reflection is softened, and it is more forgiving in daily use than full gloss.
Almost no reflection, a flat contemporary surface that reads like a painted wall with the depth of glass. The most forgiving in service, and the one that best suits large uninterrupted panels.
Gloss is chosen at the same time as the colour, not after it. Approve them together on one sample.
Colour coated glass gives the highest level of obscuration in the range — nothing is visible through it, in either direction, in any light. That is genuinely useful and it comes at a real cost, which is better understood before specifying than after.
Not reduced light — none. A coated panel does not borrow daylight from the room, and a shower behind one needs its own lighting. This is the single biggest design consequence.
A coated panel is a solid plane. In a large bathroom that can be exactly the architectural gesture wanted; in a small one it can close the room in.
An opaque surface takes its colour entirely from the lighting in the room. A deep colour under a single warm downlight is a different colour under daylight.
Where it works best, and where it does not.
All three deliver colour, and they are frequently confused. The distinction is where the colour sits and whether light passes through.

A short way to settle it: if the colour needs to be a pattern, print it. If it needs to be a translucent field, tint it. If it needs to be a specific colour, fully opaque, coat it.
Every other decorative glass in the range is treated before tempering. Coating is the exception, and it changes when decisions have to be locked.
An organic coating cannot survive the tempering furnace, so the sequence runs cutting → drilling and notching → edge work → tempering → coating. Coating is the last step, and after it nothing can be altered.
Three consequences worth planning around.
Colour coated shower glass is supplied in 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm thicknesses.
Thickness is determined by the application rather than chosen freely: panel dimensions, whether the panel is fixed or forms part of a moving door, the support method, the hardware specified, and the safety-glazing requirements of the destination market all bear on it. We confirm the appropriate thickness against your drawings and target market rather than leaving it to be resolved on site.
Panels are cut to size from your drawings. Maximum dimensions depend on thickness, handling constraints and access at the installation location, and are confirmed per project.

Flat polish, bevel and other edge finishes. On frameless coated panels the polished edge is a visible design line, and it is also the surface that gets sealed.

CNC notches and cut-outs for pivots, channels, stabiliser bars and wall connections, sealed as part of the coating specification.
Factory applied to the second surface in the specified RAL colour and gloss level, with edges and cut-outs sealed.

With an opaque panel the hardware is the only reflective element in the enclosure, which makes the choice more consequential than usual.
The pairing designers reach for most: warm metal against charcoal, deep green or black. It stops a dark panel reading as flat.
Tonal and contemporary on mid-to-dark colours. Avoid it on a black panel, where the hardware disappears and the edge sealing becomes the only visible detail.
Quiet and tonal on off-whites and pale greys, and the safest choice across a range that will carry several colours.
